Given the situation we find ourselves in is unprecedented in modern times, it was no surprise to receive the news that the 2019/20 season has been postponed. It’s been a testing few days for all here at Down Farm as we digest the fact no racing shall take place until at least May.
The majority of the winter horses are gradually being let down and will be turned out to grass for an extended summer holiday when the weather improves. The horses that have been patiently waiting for better ground will stay in training for the time being and then we will revaluate once we know more.
It’s hard to believe that Cheltenham Festival was taking place this time last week. We are extremely proud of BUN DORAN (IRE) for finishing third in the Grade 1 Queen Mother Champion Chase. He looked fantastic and travelled with his usual enthusiasm before keeping on up the hill to secure a valuable prize for the Crossed Fingers Partnership.
SUMMERVILLE BOY (IRE) finished a close fifth in the Stayers Hurdle the following day. He ran well for a long way and it wont be long before he adds another Grade 1 win to his name.
We wish all of you, our staff and everybody’s families the best of health during these testing times.
