CLONDAW CASTLE (IRE) made the long journey up to Kelso worthwhile yesterday when winning the 2m Novices Hurdle under Ciaran Gethings. He travelled nicely throughout before taking the lead two from home and pulling clear of his rivals on the run in. We’ve always considered him a stayer for the future so it’s nice that he also has the speed to win over 2m. We are waiting to see what the handicapper has to say before deciding on a Spring target but his two novice hurdle wins mean a step up in class will be inevitable. It was his first start in co owner Tim Syders colours so it was great that he was there on the day to collect the prize.
